Alayna Van Tassel, Deputy Treasurer and Executive Director of the Office of Economic Empowerment, Commonwealth of Massachusetts
Alayna Van Tassel joined the Massachusetts Treasurer’s Office in 2015 as the first Director of the Office of Economic Empowerment (OEE), a new department under Treasurer Goldberg charged with a broad range of initiatives to enhance economic stability and security including financial education and promoting equal pay. Under Alayna’s direction OEE launched the first in the nation statewide salary negation workshop program: Just Ask; created Massachusetts’ first state sponsored college savings account program; and expanded financial education programs for residents of all-ages including women, veterans, seniors, and students.
In Alayna’s 15+ years of experience in the public sector she has worked to advance the role of women and improve the economic security of all Massachusetts families. Prior to her current position she served as Chief of Staff to House Committee on Post Audit and Oversight Committee. Alayna has a Master of Arts degree in Public Policy with a concentration in women’s studies from The George Washington University and is a graduate of Suffolk University.
