Building Trust for Supervisors: A Fundamental Building Block

Join us for this highly interactive learning session on effective supervision.

SIF Office, 77 Franklin St, 9th Floor, Boston, MA 02110

Effective supervisors build mutually respectful and trusting relationships. The intrinsic power differential between staff and supervisor can make that challenging; different racial, cultural, and gender identities can make it even more complicated.

In this deeply reflective and highly interactive session, participants will:

  • Consider reflection questions about lived experiences in relationships across difference
  • Apply some of Steven Covey’s research as well as research by Karen Pace and Dionardo Pizaña about trust to strengthen supervisory relationships characterized by differences in power and identity
  • Develop a plan to adapt personal patterns and habits to build more trusting relationships with direct reports and others in the workplace
  • Learn about and practice giving constructive feedback in ways that strengthen rather than erode trust
