Welcome to our sixth installment of the Putting the “Social” in Social Innovation Summer Series! With a portfolio of 99 organizations and social businesses, the Social Innovation Forum wants to help keep our community informed, active, and social. Each week we will share events being hosted by our past Innovators and Entrepreneurs. Be sure to get out there and support our inspiring Boston nonprofit community! 

Social Innovation Forum Community Summer Series | July 21 – July 28    


1. Find Solidarity with the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute, 2016 Innovator 
Boston Peace Walks 

July 22, 6 pm | Starting point - 12th Baptist Church, 150 Warren St., Roxbury, MA 02119

Throughout the summer, prominent civic leaders and organizations will be leading Boston Peace Walks as an effort to bring together different peace stakeholders in our communities to reflect on the state of our city and our country, and to collectively develop creative solutions for addressing violence and the impact of violence on our families, friends, and neighborhoods. Think about your role in your own community and come out to join members of the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute along with many others in peaceful walks around the city. 


2. Get Your Fresh Produce (again!) with Groundwork Lawrence, 2013 Innovator
Groundwork Farmers Market

July 23, 10 am - 3 pm | Sullivan Park (Route 114), Lawrence, MA 01843

Every Saturday through the rest of the summer, Groundwork Lawrence will host your local farmers at a weekly Farmers Market. Come out and support your local farmers, buy fresh and healthy products, and reconnect with your neighbors. Enjoy the views, flavors, and the smells of summer while making healthier food choices! All of the farmers accept SNAP/EBT/food stamps as well as debit, credit, and cash; coupon program for the farmers market from Hospital Holy Family, WIC coupons and coupons for the elderly are also welcome. 

 
3. Write Away with Company One Theater, 2015 Innovator 
Redefining the Boston Playwright

Join PlayLab participants new and old for a rich, engaging conversation on everything playwriting! Whether you’re a seasoned writer or curious about how to start, this panel will have something for you. The C1 PlayLab is a powerhouse program designed to serve playwrights at all career levels. PlayLab participants participate in monthly professional development master classes with locally and nationally recognized playwrights and artistic leaders, ready to answer questions and give professional advice. C1 PlayLab is open to playwrights of any age, gender, and background who reside in the greater Boston area. This class is open to all! If you have any questions, contact literary@companyone.org. 

 
4. Drink, Eat, and Dance with Father Bill’s & MainSpring, 2008 Innovator 
Food Fest 2016 
 
July 26, 6 pm | 18 Shipyard Drive, Hingham, MA 02043 
  
Join hundreds of community members at the South Shore’s premier summer event! Enjoy exquisite ocean views, listen to great live entertainment, feast on samples from the area’s best food, and sip on some local brews and wine! Also, participate in an exciting silent auction, which includes a four night stay at either Laguna Suites Golf & Spa or the Ocean Spa Hotel in Cancun, Mexico. All proceeds will go towards Father Bill’s and MainSpring as they continue in their mission of ending and preventing homelessness in Southern Massachusetts with programs that provide emergency and permanent housing and help people obtain skills, jobs, housing, and services.


5. Be Healthier with the Madison Park Development Corporation, 2003 Innovator  
Unnatural Causes Film Series

July 26, 6 pm - 8 pm | Roxbury Innovation Center, 2300 Washington Street, Roxbury, MA 02119

Join Madison Park Development Corporation, in partnership with the Roxbury Innovation Center and the Whittier Street Health Center, in a monthly, seven-part film series focused on how inequality makes communities sick. Each film screening will be followed by a community discussion about how this relates to Roxbury. Light refreshments and Spanish subtitles will be available.
