Welcome to our second installment of the Putting the “Social” in Social Innovation Summer Series! With a portfolio of 99 organizations and social businesses, the Social Innovation Forum wants to help keep our community informed, active, and social. Each week we will share events being hosted by our past Innovators and Entrepreneurs. Be sure to get out there and support our inspiring Boston nonprofit community!

Social Innovation Forum Community Summer Series | June 19 – June 26    

1. Find Your Center with the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute, 2016 Innovator
International Day of Yoga: Yoga For Harmony and Peace
June 21, 6:30 pm | Town Fields, 1520 Dorchester Ave., Dorchester, MA 02122

Celebrate International Day of Yoga with a free community class on Town Fields taught by Alicia Zapp of Savin Hill Yoga. This event is sponsored by All Dorchester Sports League, the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute, and the Fields Corner Branch of the Boston Public Library. No registration is required but please bring your own mat and towel.

2. Dance the Night Away with with Zumix, 2006 Innovator
The Ballroom Thieves
June 21, Doors open at 8:00 pm | 260 Sumner St., East Boston, MA 02128

All proceeds support ZUMIX’s award-winning work using music as a tool to empower youth and build community. The evening will open with ZUMIX's Advanced Rock Ensemble, Miyagi and The Kids. Open to all ages. Tickets may be purchased for $20 at the door or through Eventbrite.

3. Wine and Dine with United Teen Equality Center, 2008 Innovator
UTEC + Whole Foods Market Fundraising Gala
June 22, 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm | UTEC, 41 Warren St., Lowell, MA 01852

Join us for a night of fantastic food prepared by Whole Foods Market chefs, live music, a silent auction and more - all to benefit UTEC's young people! More than 25 vendors for Whole Foods Market will share their wares, and Whole Foods Market chefs will present a multi-course meal with wine pairings.

4. Play Games with Building Impact, 2007 Innovator
Build Boston Entrepreneur Games
June 23, 9:00 am - 8:30 pm | Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center at Roxbury Community College, 1350 Tremont St., Boston, MA 02120  and Madison Park High School, 75 Malcolm X Blvd., Roxbury Crossing, MA 02120

The Entrepreneur Games is the hottest team-building event of the summer for Boston's tech venture capital, and start-up companies. This event brings more than 1,000 members of the business community together for an afternoon of fierce but friendly competition. Whether your company team takes home the gold or not, they are guaranteed to have a memorable summer outing! Our goal is to raise over $200K for BUILD in Boston, an organization dedicated to using entrepreneurship and experiential learning to ignite the potential of youth in under-resourced communities and equip them for high school, college and career success.

5. Get Inspired with Strong Women, Strong Girls, 2007 Innovator
“He Named Me Malala” Screening and Reception
June 23, 6:00 pm  | Fenway Center, 77 St. Stephen St., Boston, MA 02115

Strong Women, Strong Girls is excited to partner with Strong Women Strong Girls at Northeastern University to host a screening of He Named Me Malala, a documentary focused on the life of education activist Malala Yousafzai. All funds raised will benefit Strong Women, Strong Girls and the Northeastern Chapter to support our service to more than 900 girls throughout Boston. We'd love for you to see it with us! It's a great opportunity for the whole SWSG Family to come together and celebrate the Strength of this young women, the Strength of each of us, and of us as a community.

6. Eat, Eat, Eat with Future Chefs, 2011 Innovator
19th Annual Chefs in Shorts
June 24, 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm | Seaport Boston Hotel, 200 Seaport Blvd., Boston, MA 02210

The 19th Annual Chefs in Shorts is June 24, and for the fifth year in a row, Future Chefs is honored to be the beneficiary! Chefs in Shorts is an epic grill-off between 40+ local chefs and definitely not something you want to miss. Ticket includes complimentary beer, wine and tastings. Once again this year, guests will be invited to vote for their favorite dish! Future Chefs’ mission is to prepare urban youth in Greater Boston for quality early employment and postsecondary education opportunities in the culinary field and to support them in developing a broad base of transferable skills as they transition into the working world. The event is 21+ only.
